Standing low-cable hip abduction

Animated demonstration of Standing low-cable hip abduction

How to do this exercise

  1. Step:1 Attach an ankle strap to the carabiner of a low pulley.
  2. Step:2 Position yourself sideways to the machine and attach the strap to the ankle of the farthest (outer) leg.
  3. Step:3 Grasp the machine post with your inside hand to stabilize yourself, stand up straight and engage your core.
  4. Step:4 Lift the attached leg laterally (to the side) while keeping the leg straight, without giving momentum and without leaning the torso to the opposite side.
  5. Step:5 Pause for one second at the top of the movement to contract the side of the buttock.
  6. Step:6 Slowly return to the initial position while resisting the load, allowing the foot to cross slightly in front of the supporting leg if you wish to accentuate the stretch.
  7. Step:7 Complete your set then switch legs.
