Resistance-band fire hydrant

Animated demonstration of Resistance-band fire hydrant

How to do this exercise

  1. Step:1 Loop a resistance band (mini-band) around your legs, just above the knees.
  2. Step:2 Get on all fours with your hands under your shoulders and your knees in line with your hips, keeping the band already slightly taut.
  3. Step:3 Brace your abs to keep your spine in a neutral position and avoid any rotation of the pelvis.
  4. Step:4 Raise one knee to the side, fighting against the resistance of the band, without letting your hips swing to the opposite side.
  5. Step:5 Reach the point of maximum tension (usually when the thigh is parallel to the floor) and hold the contraction for 1 to 2 seconds.
  6. Step:6 Bring the knee back slowly, controlling the spring force of the elastic, without ever completely releasing the tension.
  7. Step:7 Repeat for the intended number of repetitions before switching legs.
